Resources for Sunshine Week

Sunshine Week Idea Bank

We’re fast approaching Sunshine Week  March 11-17.  We hope you are already planning what you on your news pages to reflect the week’s theme: Put Sunshine in Your Government.

But just in case – to get your thinking started – here’s a roundup of some of the special news and features reports that have appeared across the country in earlier Sunshine Week Sunshine Week 2012 Idea Bank.

The World of Forgotten Information

Another idea resource can be found in ASNE's report on how newspapers are using practically obscure records and turning them into major database-driven news and information websites. Compiled by ASNE FOI Committee member and Sunshine Week Co-chair Pete Weitzel, the report is posted on the ASNE website.

More Bright Ideas

News and feature reports that appeared during the 2006 and 2005 Sunshine Weeks were collected and presented in book format, and are still available online:

"Bright Ideas for Sunshine Week" (2005)
"Bright Ideas for Sunshine Week" (2006)

Other work is archived in the online 2009, 2008 Bright Ideas galleries.

Sunshine Week and Your Right to Know Logos

Sunshine Week logos are available in color and black-and-white jpgs, in horizontal and vertical layouts. The logos may be used in any Sunshine Week-related materials, including but certainly not limited to news coverage, commentary, Web sites, posters, fliers and educational materials.

Click here for downloadable images in English and Spanish.

In addition, the Sunshine Week icon has been adapted into the Your Right to Know logo, which is available for use all year with open government/FOI reporting, events and other related initiatives. Download that logo here. Pulse aquí para español.
