What: Atlanta Press Club First Amendment Speaker Series: Information control: How government wants to keep secrets but forces reporters to disclose sources. Peter C. Canfield and Thomas M. Clyde inaugurate our new First Amendment Speaker Series on Tuesday, March 14 at Georgia Tech.

Who: Peter C. Canfield is a senior partner at Dow, Lohnes & Albertson, where he represents media clients in the areas of libel, invasion of privacy, access to information and intellectual property. He has long been at the center of efforts to advance openness in government and press freedoms. He is a founding director of the Georgia First Amendment Foundation and organizes the annual Georgia Bar, Media and Judiciary Conference. Canfield is the author of of "Tapping Officials' Secrets: The Door to Open Government in Georgia."

Thomas M. Clyde, also a partner at Dow, Lohnes & Albertson, specializes in media law and his practice includes the defense of publishers and broadcasters accused of defamation, invasion of privacy and related torts. Clyde regularly counsels and represents the media regarding newsgathering, including obtaining access to judicial proceedings and government records, as well as responding to subpoenas seeking disclosure of newsgathering and confidential source information. He is the author of "Survey of Georgia Libel Law" and "Tapping Officials' Secrets: The Door to Open Government in Georgia."
